MokokchungMokokchung (160 km) is one of the great centres of Ao Naga tradition. The prowess of the Ao warriors is reflected in gorgeous red and black shawls with the white decorated band that signified their victory over their enemies. The two main festivals celebrated here are connected with sowing. Moatsu in early May and harvesting, Tsungremmong in August. After reaching Dimapur or Jorhat one has to go by buses. The distance from Jorhat to Mokokchung is 105 Kms via Mariani and from Dimapur to Mokokchung is 212 Kms via GolaghatBy Rail : The nearest railhead too is Dimapur, and the Northeast Frontier Railway runs a number of trains from Dimapur to Guwahati. Guwahati is in turn well connected to the rest of the country. By Road : Nagaland State Transport runs buses from Dimapur to Mokokchung and the journey takes around 4 hours. From Guwahati, one can find a number of luxury private buses. Taxis and mini-coaches are also available, albeit at slightly exorbitant rates, from Dimapur. |
