Tsomgo Lake and Nathu La Pass

You can drive up to the hallowed, oval shaped glacial Tsomgo Lake (3780 m) to enjoy its mystical environs (just 38 km from Gangtok) and yak rides. In winter, these snowfields are breathtaking. Your travel agent will arrange entry permits to Tsomgo – daily trips.

This holds true for the historic Nathu la Pass (14200 ft) too, as by the late afternoon, it generally gets enveloped in mist. (open Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday only). Recognized local travel agencies arrange transport and handle all the details.

Best time to visit: March – Late May and September – Mid December.

Location : Tsomgo(Changu) lake is situated 35 km from Gangtok on the Gangtok - Nathula highway.

How to reach Tsomgo Lake and Nathu La Pass

By Air : Nearest Airport : Bagdogra, in West Bengal( 124 kms.), from where scheduled flights operates to and fro from Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati. The Bagdogra airport is connected to Gangtok by a helicopter service operating between Gangtok - Bagdogra - Gangtok.

By Train : Two nearest railway station are at Siliguri (114 km) and New Jalpaiguri (125 km) stabilizing link to Calcutta, Delhi, Guwahati, Lucknow and other important cities in India.

By Road : Gangtok is connected with all weather mettaled road with Siliguri, Kalimpong, Gangtok etc. Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim is connected by all weather road to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri and also to all the District headquarters within Sikkim.
